Nine girls, ages 11-13 from Willoughby Hills, raised an astounding $22,000 last year in the fight against AIDS. Proud to be named Co-Chairs of the event this year, they are now raising money for the AIDS Walk/Run. THEY'RE CHALLENGING YOU TO DO THE SAME!

"IF WE CAN DO IT, YOU CAN TOO!"

HEAR THEIR INSPIRATIONAL STORY AND SEE THEM PERFORM AT THE EVENT'S OPENING CEREMONY.

"As we worked to raise money last spring, we learned a lot about AllIS. About how many people are affected, about how big the problem is. About families and kids-kids like us whe are struggling with AIDS. Ir made us realize how important it is to do something, to take a stand. We raised $2238. but we know it's not enough. We need to do more. And if we can do il, you can to. We'll be there september 21 We hope you will too

Youth is not wasted on the young

Kimberly (Paula Duesing), Debra (Joan Fuglewicz) and Jeff (Sean Fitzgerald) hide behind books in the library, peering out at the cold, hard world in Dobama Theatre's production of David Lindsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo.

Burdened with a disease that causes her to age at four times the normal rate, 16-year-old Kimberly already looks like she's in her 60s, and has reached the expected lifespan for people with her condition. While her drunk fäther and hypochondriac mother plan to replace her and move to a new town, Kimberly's lesbian aunt Debra hatches a plan to make some money off her niece.

Thankfully, fellow teen misfit Jeff is on Kimberly's side, and may help lead her out of the labyrinth that her life has become.

Kimberly Akimbo plays through September 28 at Dobama Theatre, 1846 Coventry Rd, Cleveland Heights. For more information, log onto www.dobama.org or call 216-932-6838.
